We’ve covered some monumental songs that sculpted the R&B and commercial music scene in the 90’s and one of the premiere acts of the time is up next with Boyz II Men I’ll Make Love To You. They were leaders in the more traditional love infused music and even the most hardest street dudes will admit that from time to time, we love singing along to these riffs (in private).
#7 Boyz II Men I’ll Make Love To You
Boyz II Men I’ll Make Love To You was released in 1994 to a massive commercial success. It sat at the top of Billboard Hot 100 for 14 weeks which was a record at the time. It just goes to show how dominant R&B music was 20 years ago. The smash hit went on to receive platinum accreditation and took Boyz II Men to a different stratosphere by way of holding cheques and things of that nature. The song won a Grammy and ranks at number 19 on Billboard’s All-Time Top 100 Songs. Here at imperious Entertainment, we like to call that “separation”.
The premise of the music video featured a HOT woman and a gentleman named “Duane”. They firstly encounter each other when he installs her security system (let’s hope he doesn’t come for revenge later!) and the video showcases the mutual infatuation between the two parties which concludes in an exchange of love letters. I personally would have loved to live in a generation when writing love letters was a thing, however it must have been HELLA annoying making a typo. The conundrum would have been, cross the word out and ruin the swag, or letting the mistake go and risk looking real ignorant. Tip-Ex was super corny also.
The lyrics feature a host of lines oh so appropriate when you’re lost in the ambience of an impressive member of the opposite sex.
Pour the wine, light the fire
Girl your wish is my command
I submit to your demands
I’ll do anything, girl you need only ask
This is an anthem for all the spooners out there goddamit! Babyface wrote this song and the message of putting women on a pedestal sounds strange given the current state of music. This is a classic love song and really served as the blueprint for the many R&B hits that followed in the 90’s.
Boyz II Men I’ll Make Love To You Rap Up
Boyz II Men I’ll Make Love To You made it into our top 8 because Boys II Men and Jodeci really sculpted a large part of the R&B sound of the 90’s. If it wasn’t directly through their songs, these 2 groups laid the blueprint for later acts to thrive off the musical niche they carved out. Boys II Men were the nice wholesome guys whereas Jodeci portrayed the more edgy street element. Both were phenomenal.
Only one more spot up for grabs. Rams, cap it off correctly.
