Harry Styles – Sign of The Times REVIEW

Posted on Posted in Music, Uncategorized

1D Member, Harry Styles, released his debut song entitled Sign of the Times. The former One Direction heart-throb is attempting to pull at heartstrings with this slowed down love song. Comparisons will be made now he is a soloist with former band-mate Zayn Malik. Sign of the Times is intended to be an anthem. I mean, irrespective of my take it will get that ass – and what I mean by that is it will go number 1. Make no mistake about it.

Harry Styles looking hella fly – PAUSE!

This one is for the bitches!

Production

Sign of the Times was a tri-fecta production by Tyler Johnson, Alex Salibian and Jeff Bhasker. Yeah, yeah, I love that description there. Essentially, the song is a slowed paced pop-rock track. In terms of concept, it is to avoid heart-break during times of hardship, which is POSITIVE. The song seems to have some inspiration stemming from acts such as the late great David Bowie.  Styles was trying to sing his ass off in Sign of the Times. Trying to create an anthem on the roads. Emotions are meant to be evoked. In my humble opinion, the reccid just did not move me, respectfully!

My reaction after the first listen of Harry Style’s Sign of the Times

“Oi, where we going with this?!?!”

Video

Officially, Sign of the Times was released April 7th 2017. So far, in terms of numbers, the projections are fore-casted to be a madness. Man like Hazza has 19 million views, correct at the time of press.

Numbers wise, whatever he may do is not going to add to replay value! – Jeks

Lyrics

“Just stop your crying, it’s a sign of the times
We gotta get away from here
We gotta get away from here
Just stop your crying, it’ll be alright
They told me that the end is near
We gotta get away from here”

In the scriptures, sign of the times normally suggests a prophecy of a time of peril. It was at this point, where I knew the song was trash. The song was like an off-key slowed down Oasis song with no zip. In a song that is intended to pack a knock-out blow by way of emotion it did not even graze me.

“We never learn, we been here before
Why are we always stuck and running from
The bullets? The bullets
We never learn, we been here before
Why are we always stuck and running from
The bullets? The bullets”

The pre-chorus on Sign of the Times, is trying to lure you in but again it was not powerfully delivered. The ingredients are there but the message was not profound enough. A motherfucker like Adele, would have taken me to “different areas of the jail” (different areas of my heart) with her immense vocals.

Rating

4/10

Sign of the Times was a throwaway reccid in my opinion and a bad start in terms of song as a soloist. Now, if you remove the love hearts emojis from the girls and strip the song down to its core components it was poor. A slow paced song about love, which does not move anybody older than 21 is an L (a loss).

Back to the drawing board for Hazza. He is not troubling Zayn Malik on the evidence of this!
